Welcome event: Strolling around the Japanese heritage ‘Korakuen’ park and shopping zone

Notes
Detail

As a welcome event before the conference day, we would provide a casual tour of visiting Okayama Korakuen Park, which is one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan. On the way to the park, we will ride on a small train (LRT), if you are a lucky guy, you can meet a Chuggington car. October, the beginning of autumn, is the best season for watching at and taking photos of Japanese garden. If you like, you can walk in Okayama castle standing on a small hill beside the garden. (The technical excursion tour 2-A includes visiting to Okayama castle) On the way back after visiting the park, we enjoy strolling the old shopping mall in Okayama down town freely and walking along riverside and sightseeing streets toward a big shopping center IEON mall. It is up to your preference to visit lovey shops along the street. You might look at attractive ceramic items with a name ‘Bizen-yaki’, which is the traditional ceramic wares.

You don’t have to do the registration of this tour in advance. A guide takes you to this tour, but you can do this tour freely. For instance, you can go to Okayama Castle if you like, or you can stay longer at your favorite shops and restaurants. First, we will give you a map showing the tour itinerary and how to get back to Okayama Station.

Please pay the ride ticket of LRT(one way 120 yen) and the entrance fee to the garden (410 yen) by yourself. A combination ticket of entering both the garden and the castle is 640 yen. You can pay the entrance ticket by card, but LRT ticket is cash only. Recommend you to have a Japanese 1,000 yen bill for a person. (about 7.2 USD)

Technical Excursion A (19th of October)

Detail

This technical excursion visits two facilities: one is a gasification and reforming facility aiming for complete waste recycling, which is located in Kurashiki city, and the other is a facility to produce bio-diesel from waste cooking oil, which is located in Okayama city. The gasification and reforming process in Kurashiki city is an advanced waste treatment and recycling plant based on Thermo-select technique by JFE. The waste is converted to flammable gas, granulated slag, metal hydroxide, sulfur, and mixed salt, as a result, no waste remains in the theory. We also visit Kurashiki old townscape to enjoy the emotion of Japanese old-fashioned town. After lunch time, we move to Okayama city to visit a new methane fermentation plant that produces methane gas from food waste. The food waste is collected from restaurants and food industries. Finally, we visit Okayama Castle, the symbol of Okayama City. Recently, Okayama Castle has been renewed for not only the exterior but also the exhibits inside the castle. I hope you will enjoy it.

There are two options in this excursion. One option includes Japanese ‘Sushi’ lunch at a restaurant in Kurashiki International Hotel (Tour fee: 30 USD, well recommended). The other does not include the lunch, but it is possible to buy light foods in shops or eat in restaurants in the town.(Tour fee: 10 USD) Hope to enjoy visit and eating the lunch!
